Great post Ben!

I’ve been thinking about materials a lot in these days, especially in how to communicate the qualities of those now that most products are sold via online shops.

Also the Vizcom part is very interesting, I was evaluating the use of it for my design students. It looks like it works very well to give context to products. Have you tried it for the brainstorming phase?

Thank you Mario for your kind words :)

That’s a seriously good point. How we communicate CMF online when you don’t have the privilege of touch is, and always has been a challenge. Photography goes a long way and honestly, a little art direction lifts most design centred products above the rest in my view. What have you found that works for you and your clients?

Vizcom has become a game changer for providing context to products (particularly through video I have found). It has gotten better by the month over the last 6 months I would say. I also quite like some of its more playful tools for early iterations. I haven’t tried it with loose thumbnail sketches in a while but with testing 5-6 months ago I found ChatGPT was actually best for generating photorealism from a loose sketch.
